This qualification is to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to the health and social care workforce.

 

This qualification confirms competence in these areas for roles such as:

  • Care assistants/support workers/key workers in residential settings, domiciliary services, or day services

  • Healthcare assistants/support workers in community and primary care environments or acute health environments • Support workers in supported living projects

  • Community-based care assistants/ support workers/key workers, including those working in specialist areas eg dementia, learning disabilities

  • Personal assistants employed directly by the individual they support or their families

  • Emerging new types of workers and multidisciplinary health roles crossing traditional service barriers and delivery models

Overview: 

The qualification is aimed at managers and advanced practitioners in health and social care and children and young people’s services.

 

The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services replaces and combines the level 4 leadership and Management in Care Services QCF and level 4 Health and Social Care QCF to offer a hybrid qualification.

Pathways:

Learners' can choose one of the six pathways allowing them to tailor the qualification to their job role:

  • Management of Adult Services

  • Management of Adult Residential Services

  • Practice in Adult Services

  • Management of Children and Young People's Services

  • Management of Children and Young People's Residential Services

  • Practice in Children and Young People's Services

This will provide opportunities for progression from the HSC Senior Practitioner role to a Management role ensuring no duplication. This qualification is shared between the adults and children’s sectors in England, and also allows for transfer for workers moving to Wales and Northern Ireland.

Awareness of Communication in Adult Social Care

This unit is aimed at learners who wish to explore roles in adult social care and to develop their basic knowledge of the adult social care sector.​

Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health and Social Care in Children and Young People's Settings

Overview: 

This qualification provides the knowledge to equip learners with an understanding of the health, social care and children and young people’s sector and their role within it.

 

It covers statutory responsibilities and rights of employees and employer's awareness of own occupational role and how it fits within the sector, agreed ways of working with employers, career pathways issues of public concern and how these may influence changes in the sector. For learners completing an apprenticeship, the unit covers the Employment Responsibilities and Rights (ERR) requirement addressing all 9 targets through a contextualised approach. The unit has a wider use however, for any worker in the heath, social care and children and young people’s sector.

The qualification aims to assess learners' knowledge and understanding of practices in the care of individuals with dementia. It can also be used to prepare learners for employment and professional development for those who wish to gain knowledge in this specialist area of practice.

Overview: 

This qualification aims to:

  • Familiarise learners with infection control legislation and policies

  • Develop understanding of the causes of infections, the conditions in which they thrive and the ways that they can be spread

  • Develop understanding of the methods of cleaning and waste disposal that help prevent the spread of infection

  • Introduce learners to the hand washing techniques and personal protective equipment they should use to help prevent the spread of infection

Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Awareness

The Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Awareness is suitable for candidates who wish to improve their knowledge and understanding of the condition of dementia, and of how to apply the principles of person-centred dementia.

Level 2 Certificate in Handling Medicines Safely

Overview: 

This award is aimed at:

  • Care assistants in all forms of residential care.

  • Adult learners who are seeking re-entry to the employment market but who have insufficient qualifications and/or experience.

  • Learners who wish to access initial training within the care sector, with a view to progressing on to further and/or higher programmes of study

  • Learners currently studying on other vocational programmes who wish to undertake the award as additional learning

Level 2 Certificate in Provision of Activities in a Care Setting

The target group for this award are healthcare professionals working in the sector and also anyone wishing to increase their knowledge and skills within this area.

This course is designed for those aged 18 and over who wish to develop their understanding of the safe handling of medicines. These may be learners who wish to access this training with a view to progress on to further qualifications, or learners who wish to study this programme to complement other programmes.
